Camp Mather's 90th Anniversary Barn

For the 90th anniversary of Camp Mather in Yosemite, a barn was converted into a gallery to house 11 big display panels, showcasing the entire history of the campgrounds.

We split the exhibition into two themes, natural environment and human interaction because both had significant impact but a very different time scale. The natural environment progresses from the glaciers to today's flora and fauna on the left. On the right, the human interaction with nature from the Miwok Indians over Hetch Hetchy to Camp Mather and the Rim Fire. Both themes converge into one big panel showing how humans - big and small - have come together with nature at Camp Mather over the past 90 years.

We worked closely with Camp Mather legend Neil Fahy who joined the camp team in 1944 as a naturalist.

The signs are packed with information but broken up into smaller pieces to follow along or explore on your own. It is an educational exhibition so there is a bit more information than we normally would use in a park.

Four 4x5 foot panels showcasing the Geological natural history of the region, four 4x5 foot panels showcasing the Human imprint on the region, three 5x5 foot panels of memories and fun at the camp and families enjoying themselves submerged in nature over the past 9 decades.

We’re happy to report that there are happy campers able to learn more about the camp’s history and are inspired to continue to protect its legacy.
